One thing I have not really shared on this blog yet is furniture I have painted. I have been painting furniture for years. It is basically how we afforded furnishing our house for the last 10 years.
For the Bloom & Shine sale, I had a lot of furniture that I had bought at auctions and yard sales that I painted with different techniques. I thought I would share some of those over the next few days starting with today’s share….
Oh yeah, and I should mention, I was not great about taking all of the before, or all of the afters for that matter. My plan was once everything was set up to take close ups of all the pieces I worked on, but that didn’t necessarily happen. So, bear with me please!
This is a milk stool. It is not very old or with much character, so I decided to something about that..
I used that pretty blue color from Rustoleum (sorry, can is in garage, I’m warm and cozy inside). The plan was for a smooth finish, no roughing it up, more of a contrasting modern clean finish. The stool disagreed. I would leave it all smooth, walk away, come back and it was all bubbled. I would sand it, spray it again, come back and it was bubbled again. Five times. So, I gave up and allowed its soul to be what it wanted to be..
I distressed it on the top (I know, you can’t see the top) and on the legs, sprayed it with two coats of spray polycrylic. It was one of the first things to sell. Actually, all of the little stools sold (note to self).
I had another piece that I did a smooth spray paint finish and this one did not fight with me. Again, I used Rustoleum in the pretty dark grayish green (again, in the garage, me, warm and cozy).
As you can see, I did remember to take a pic here, but after I started to prime, but you get the gist. I used a spray primer, I am pretty sure I used Kilz spray primer on this one. But you get the gist, simple and basic oak small side table.
This one did not sell, but I think I will offer it at the next sale since it is a small and versatile piece.

What a cute little table, Laura! It’s such a great way to transform an old piece or something that just needs a little loving! I’ve recently been doing more furniture myself lately, but they are pieces I’m keeping for myself.

I can’t believe the table didn’t sell either. I am looking for a small stool, but I want it dining chair height. My mom had 3 and one of them sat at the end of the table. There were 4 dining chairs and one stool at the table. I sat on the stool and always found it comfortable.
