Some Vintage Finds

Last year, I hit several great auctions during the winter and early spring.

This year, they have not been as good or I have been unable to attend the ones with good potential.

I was starting to get very frustrated.

Recently, I have had better luck though – with two estate sales run by the same company.

I thought I would share some of my finds today…

Some are to keep, some are for projects and some are in preparation to hopefully open at Etsy shop soon?

This first one is so fun – it is an old lock but it has a latch on it that would be great to hang things from.

I couldn’t scoop this embroidered clock up fast enough..still deciding if I am keeping or selling this one… IMG 9398 thumb Some Vintage Finds

The details are unbelievable – I love all the different type of stitches, colors and thicknesses.  I think with a fun color pop on the frame this could be fabulous! IMG 9400 thumb Some Vintage Finds

A small ironstone sugar bowl went right on my shelf… IMG 9403 thumb Some Vintage Finds

A large pile of freshly washed vintage hankies.  These were quite the challenge to get out the musty smell but I finally won out.

Note, these are washed, not pressed.

I am working on some ideas of projects with these, we shall see… IMG 9408 thumb Some Vintage Finds

I have looked for one of these for a while, a chicken feeder.  Another lady had it in her hand for a long time, but she put it down and walked away.

Fair game in my book.

Oh, and some of the hankies have beautiful embroidered details.

Again, not yet pressed. IMG 9419 thumb Some Vintage Finds

These were kind of thrown in with everything else, one is a wooden flat spoon and the other – I have no idea.

Hopefully some day I will have a “light bulb” moment and figure out what to do with it. IMG 9426 thumb Some Vintage Finds

This is one of my favorites.  I got all three buckets, but the front one still has its farm label.

Hubby really liked this one as well so this is a keeper. IMG 9431 thumb Some Vintage Finds

This little pretty painting was in a really ugly and crazy heavy frame, I threw that away and now you can see how pretty the art really is and I love the colors. IMG 9446 thumb Some Vintage Finds

Couldn’t pass this baby up – yup, the year I was born.

I’ll save you the math – I am 41.

This was too good of a deal to pass up.  It is a pheasant transferware pattern.

It is incomplete, but I thought it would be fun to find other pieces to mix with it and use it for a Thanksgiving table. IMG 9461 thumb Some Vintage Finds

It is already in my kitchen hutch with all of its new transferware friends.

And lastly, some uniquely shaped ironstone bowls.

I have gone to almost every estate sale this company runs.

I know if they are doing it chances are its going to be pretty good.

They told me they have another one coming up soon and I realized it was the weekend of Brimfield (anyone going?).

I tried to convince them it was a bad choices because so many collectors would be at Brimfield – most importantly me and I wouldn’t be able to come!

But then, they also realized it is Mother’s Day weekend as well.

Keeping my fingers crossed they have rescheduled it so I can go!

Have a great day!

  1. Score!! LOVE the embroidered clock and chicken feeder! Of course, anything galvanized is a good thing too! And I love vintage paintings.

I’m contemplating adding vintage stuff to my Etsy shop too – after all, we only have room for so much (unfortunately)!

Your obvious joy in your finds is contagious and has me smiling as I read on.
I hope they do move their sale date to accommodate you.

If you add a pop of color to the stitched clock frame may I suggest staying with a Scandinavian blue, perhaps wiped off and streaked with a silver, cream or pale yellow underneath, showing through.

We have done wonderful centerpieces with the chicken feeders, using florals and ribbon. However they also make great M&M dispensors.

  3. Laura, and Kelly at Eclectically Vintage, please, please, please open Etsy shops!

  4. Loved everything you found, but I think the pheasant transferware is my absolute favorite!! Don’t you just love a good estate sale?? I never get tired of spending a Saturday digging through treasures…. :)

  5. Gabrielle Schroader says:

Love that you pick things up just because they are cool or pretty or interesting. You never know when inspiration will hit.

  6. Oh my goodness what a haul! I adore that stitched clock, it would have to be pried out of my hands!! The hankies are totally swoon worthy and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with them. My fav find? The transfer wear!! omg I would have fought someone for that lol So happy you got your “finding mojo” going again!

  7. Cheryl Porada says:

I believe the piece you are calling a spoon is a vintage butter paddle. I, too, love vintage woodenware

  8. So many and such great finds. Good for you, you lucky girl!!

Love the hankies! A successful shopping trip!

  13. Laura,
“Years ago” I volunteered my time for a friend who ran Estate Sales. His mom and 2 aunts worked with him to price and set up the sale and the day of the sale the rest of us helped man the sale. Our pay was 2 picks of non-advertised items (to buy) and an hour or so into the sale we could buy other things. I think back to all the treasures I bought most of them I still have. The fun part of these sales is no two are alike and you never know what you will find. you have to buy it when you see it because it will be gone if you don’t. At a competitors Estate Sale I even found a signed and numbered Tiffany Favrile footed comport mispriced for $1.00. Lucky day. I still smile when I see it.

Just wondering if that wooden box could be a butter mold!

  17. I think your wooden things are a butter paddle and a butter mold. They used them to get all the whey out of the butter and then press it into a pretty design. You are missing part of the butter mold. Love your style!

  18. Angie says:

That is indeed a wooden butter mold, minus the press. The press would have a handle that went through the hole of the butter mold, and the press part would also have a design carved, usually a distinctive design that would be recognized as that particular farm wife’s butter.

  19. Shirley says:

i used similar hankies to make a “valance” for my guest room. it is a very colorful room so i just took various colors of ribbon and tied a hankie around each tab on my white sheer curtains. i LOVE the look! it’s so cheery! and on your piece that is reportedly a butter mold…. not sure what size it is but i have antique (wooden) sewing machine drawers that i use on my kitchen counters to corral small containers. one is used for my bottles of olive and coconut oils as well as salt and pepper shakers. the other is used for sugar dispenser jar, honey jar and a cute mug with my stevia packets. it just looks so much more organized and you can pick up the one container to wipe the counter.
oh, and one more thing…..the clock would be PERFECT as is on my red kitchen walls!! :)
